How Does The Spam Filtering Work?
We run programs called MailScanner and SpamAssassin. These programs work together to find spam and mark it as such. As mail comes in it is scanned. The software determines whether a message is spam or possible spam based on a complex scoring system. It is not perfect. There will be spam messages that get through the filters and there will be the occasional message that gets marked as spam that should not be (called a false positive).
You can either set up a filter on your e-mail program like Microsoft Outlook or we can set it up so that those messages marked as spam or possible spam can be pulled out for you.
If we pull out the spam for you, it gets placed in a folder that is only accessible through the web based e-mail. A folder is created for each day and at the end of 14 days it is automatically deleted.
If you find an e-mail address that is getting marked as spam that should not be, just fill out the Whitelist Request Form and the e-mail address will be added to our list of addresses that is not filtered.
If you are receiving spam from the same e-mail address over and over again just fill out the Black Request Form and the e-mail address will be banned from our servers.
If you would like to change the way your e-mail is working, call or e-mail us at the information listed below.
If our internal spam filters are not doing enough for you, we work with Mail Foundry, a third party spam filtering company. For a $15.00 setup and $1.00 per moth per e-mail address, it is a real bargain.
