Optional Features

There are many optional features that you can add to your site:

E-commerce

There are several methods to conducting e-commerce.

Your needs may range from a simple payment form or even registration all the way to a full-blown database generated electronic storefront. You can use our secure certificate from Thawte (a Verisign Company) or you can get your own certificate.

Simple Secure Form

We have a secure form that can be configured to get the credit card information to you or interface directly with an Internet gateway to deposit the funds directly into your bank account without user intervention.

Here is an example of a simple payment form:
Secure payment form for Commercial Collection Corporation.

Option 1: You get the credit card info so that you can process it

  1. The user submits the form through using our secure certificate.
  2. The information is then stored temporarily on the server waiting to be retrieved through a secure interface.
  3. An e-mail with a reference number is sent to the merchant
  4. The merchant logs on to a secure password protected interface using their web browser and enters the reference number that they received via e-mail. The information sent across this connection is encrypted with our 128 bit encryption key from Thawte.
  5. The merchant then removes the information from the server. It is a good idea not to have credit cards remain on the server for more than a short time. Although we take many precaution to make sure that our servers are locked up tight, nothing is ever 100% secure. Just ask Microsoft. :-)
Option 2: Using an Internet Gateway

If you have large numbers of transactions, or do not want your employees or volunteers to have access to credit card information, then you need an Internet Gateway. If you are using an Internet Gateway, the information from the form is sent to you with everything except the credit card information. The payment goes directly into your bank account. (See below for more information about Internet Gateways.)

The cost of setting up a form like this is roughly $100.00. Obviously, the price of each form needs to be evaluated based upon its complexity.

Secure Certificates

The monthly cost of using our server to process forms or scripts through a secure certificate is $15.00 per month whether you are using our secure certificate or your own. The difference is that if you are using your own certificate, you will need to pay for it annually. A secure certificate from Thawte costs $199.00. There will also be a setup fee from WebEditor of $100 to install and configure the certificate.

Internet Gateway

If you do not want to manually process transactions then you will need an Internet Gateway. An Internet Gateway will reduce the amount of work you have to do. Money will be deposited directly into your bank account with no user intervention. You will not even see their credit card number.

WebEditor is an Authorize.Net™ reseller. This directly benefits you with better pricing than is offered directly to the public.

The prices for Authorize.Net™ gateway if it is purchased through WebEditor are as follows:

  • $149.00 setup
  • $20.00 monthly
  • $.10 per transaction
  • no minimum transactions.

If you purchase the gateway directly from Authorize.Net™ it is about twice as much.

Merchant Account

In order to take credit cards, you must have a merchant account. If you do not have one then I can help you set one up. Authorize.Net™ partners with Wells Fargo Bank. If you set up the merchant account with them, there are additional discounts.

Shopping Cart

The shopping cart software costs $150.00. There is also a $100.00 setup fee. If you need features not included in the base shopping cart software, they are more than willing to customize it to work with your needs.

Databases

Designing Your Database

WebEditor can design a custom Internet-based database using PHP and MYSQL. Possible uses might be a directory of addresses, a directory of people, or an on-line survey. Your existing content can be imported into the database, or you can create the data from scratch. When you are ready, we can discuss your specific needs.

Examples:

  • Click here to see a working example of a searchable database of consultants.
  • Click here to see an example of a searchable list of addresses and descriptions based on category.

Administrating the database You will have access to a password protected database administration center where you will have access to the following features:

  • Add
  • Remove
  • Modify
  • Image upload

Newsletters

We can set up a mailing list for you where you can send your newsletter to thousands of users at once. Users will have the ability to subscribe or unsubscribe without your intervention. You will also have the ability to add, remove, and change e-mail addresses through the administrative interface.

There are a number of ways to put a newsletter on your web site which include but are not limited to:

  • Uploading a pdf file and making a simple link to the file see example (I did not do this design. I just manage the site)
  • Sending the file to WebEditor and having us convert the file to html format see example
  • Using our mailing list software to manage large numbers of users. Users can automatically subscribe and unsubscribe without any action from you. The price is a $50.00 setup per list and $10.00 per month.

If you want your newsletter added to your web site, I can add it for you. The cost of adding it to the web site is based on $85.00 per hour. Most newsletters only take 10 to 20 minutes depending on their complexity.

Our own mailing list program is very simple. It can handle the html e-mails. It does not have a lot of bells and whistles. It suits my needs. I use it to send messages to my customers.

Here are the features:

  • Users can subscribe and unsubscribe using forms on your web site.
  • It requires users to verify that they want to be on your list so that people can't sign up someone else and spammers cannot take advantage of it.
  • It has customizable welcome and goodbye messages.
  • You can send e-mail through the admin interface or by sending to an e-mail address. The e-mail address requires that you reply to the message before it goes out to the world. This is another spam protection feature.
  • You can send html e-mails to the list address. It looks a bit weird when it asks you for verification, but it comes through correctly.
  • You can add groups of users all at once or one at a time and with or without a greeting message being sent to them.
  • Customizable signature for the e-mails going through the admin interface.

Members Only

Password protection is a fairly easy thing to do. You have a couple of options.

You can have just one password for all the members to gain access to member only sections of the site. This option takes virtually no time at all.

You can also set up a more elaborate system with a username and password for each user. The membership area can be subscription-based to make money for you, or you can make it free. Tell us what you need. We'll make it happen.
